History of Gretna: 

The town of Gretna was initially known to many as Dana. The city was laid out in September of 1887, and the name was later changed when the railroad arrived. Families from Missouri settled the town and community. It never grew too substantial, never having more than a half a dozen businesses. At one point, it was a thriving trading point, having the bank, elevator, and a few stores.

Gretna is located at 39°59’34” N 99°25’35” W, halfway between Phillipsburg and Agra.

History of Woodruff:

Woodruff was platted and laid out by the Lincoln Land Co., on July 23, 1885. When the railroad reached the area, it brought entrepreneurial individuals, and the businesses began to arise. Woodruff, at the time, was a hustling and booming town of about 300 people. It was a place of great company and dedicated individuals. Today, however, the community has been unable to withstand the population and transportations trends.

Woodruff is located at 39°59’34” N 99°25’35” W, which is just south of the Nebraska State Line.

History of Stuttgart:

Established in the early 1870s, Stuttgart became home to several early settlers. When the Rock Island Railroad made its way through the Northwest and platted a station in Stuttgart, the community thrived. The railroad provided the settlers with an opportunity to earn some money in which they could improve their living quarters. 

On February 6, 1888, Stuttgart was founded. The name Stuttgart was taken from the town of Stuttgart, Germany, which many of the pioneers originated.

Stuttgart is located at 39°47’58” N 99°27’19” W, which is halfway between Phillipsburg and Prairie View.
